Introducing The Together Program: empowering mothers and babies.

We are pleased to introduce The Together Program pilot; a collaboration between Uniting WA and Homeless Healthcare that will support mothers facing homelessness, ensuring a home and supporting a stable, safe and nurturing environment enabling mothers to retain custody of their child and thrive together.

The first 1,000 days of a baby’s life are crucial. Homelessness not only impacts the healthy development and birth outcomes of babies but may put them at risk of needing future interventions and supports.

The Home2Health research team led by Professor Lisa Wood at the University of Notre Dame will gather crucial data from this three-year pilot. It is hoped this research will inform future policy and service development. There may be the opportunity to demonstrate the value and potential savings of The Together Program in keeping babies and children safely with their birth family and out of the already overstretched Out Of Home Care system.

A Beacon of Hope

The Together Program is a low-barrier service with the primary goal of empowering mothers, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to build a stable life for their family unit.

Comprehensive Support

The Together Program will include:

  • Stable Housing:
Participants will have access to secure accommodation for 9-12 months, with rent set at community housing rates and a supportive landlord approach, creating a safe and stable living environment before transitioning them into longer-term housing.

  • Specialised Case Management:
Our dedicated team understands the unique needs of both mothers and infants. We provide personalised support, helping mothers develop essential life skills and establish valuable networks for a brighter future.

  • Essential Healthcare:
We prioritise the health and well-being of both mother and baby. This includes access to crucial ante-natal and post-natal care, as well as ongoing GP and child health support services.

The Together Program pilot is more than just a service as it provides hope, stability, and for the possibility of a different future for mothers and their babies.

The Sisters of St John of God are pleased to support this program.
