End Homelessness in WA Launch
The second stage of the launch took the shape of an unprecedented musical event in the city, led by the UWA Conservatorium of Music and co-hosted by the UWA Centre for Social Impact.
The moving event featured more than 1,000 musicians and singers stationed throughout the streets of Perth performing Gavin Bryars’ Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, a 1971 composition based around a haunting audio loop of an unknown homeless man singing a hymn.
Hundreds of people walked alongside a trolley playing the looped hymn as it moved along the Hay St and Murray St Malls to a massed performance in Forrest Place.
The 10-Year Strategy to End Homelessness in WA is a ‘living document’ designed to provide alignment and direction over the next decade. Hundreds of individuals, organisations, groups and departments have already put in time and energy to shape the strategy.
The launch was an opportunity to celebrate the fact that we are already on a journey, working together to end homelessness in WA – a great moment to strengthen our commitment and our community to ensure that we realise our vision of ending homelessness in WA by 2028.
Everybody has the right to a home. Together we can end homelessness in WA.
