90th Birthday celebrations for Roy, a resident supported by Uniting WA.

Our incredible Wilf Sargent House resident, Roy, turned 90 on 5 December.

Roy was a successful ex-golf pro, winning championships like the Western Australia Professional Golfers Association in the ’60s, to venturing into business with his own golf bag company.

However, life took a challenging turn when a relationship breakdown led him to homelessness, living in his business warehouse and later in his car for four months.

Last year, he found a home and support at our Uniting WA’s Homeless Accommodation Support Service (HASS) after a transitional period at 55 Central. Despite challenges, he’s showcased remarkable resilience and independence.

Our Uniting team, along with support workers, Dickson and Yana, ensured Roy’s milestone was celebrated in style with lunch, a specially baked cake, and festive decorations at Wilf Sargent House.

His 90th birthday wish for a memorable celebration at Rottnest Island was granted, thanks to Sealink’s generous sponsorship.
