Positive behaviour support in Perth and Albany

If you’re looking for comprehensive Positive Behaviour Support strategies from a highly skilled team with on-the-ground experience, Uniting WA can help.

Positive Behaviour Support, also known as PBS, is a service that applies evidence-based strategies using a person-centred approach, to reduce the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern.

Behaviours of concern is defined as recurring behaviour that puts the safety of people at risk or results in challenges that limit a person’s ability to live a good life.

The Uniting WA Positive Behaviour Support team recognises that behaviours of concern happen for a reason and are often used to communicate an unmet need.

As a person-centred NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) provider, we work with our Participants and their circle of support to implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies to improve their wellbeing and quality of life.

How does Uniting WA approach PBS?

At Uniting WA, our approach is based on overarching values including choice, participation, and equality of opportunity. Our team works one on one with each Participant, to develop Positive Behaviour Support strategies that are tailored to their unique needs, and they also offer continual, compassionate support.

Our Positive Behaviour Support services include:

  • Interim Behaviour Support Plans: This may include regulated restrictive practices within a one-month period.
  • Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans: This includes conducting a Functional Behaviour Assessment and a Behaviour Support Plan within a 6-month period.
  • Reviewing existing Behaviour Support Plans: This includes reviewing and evaluating the existing plan, including additional consultation with the Participant and support networks.
  • Implementation: This includes training and coaching staff and carers to support the implementation of the plan.
